Woodledge offers a wide variety of swim lessons for youth members of all abilities at no cost. We offer 6 different levels of instruction with qualified and skilled instructors. There will be three sessions of swim lessons, each lasting two weeks. Testing will occur on the last Friday of every session. Lessons are held daily in 30 minute intervals from 11:00 – 1:00PM. They are as follows:
Session 1: June 16 – June 27
Session 2: June 30 – July 11
Session 3: July 14 – July 25
You will need to sign-up for lessons for each session that you would like to participate. If you are unsure about your child’s placement, please sign them up for the lesson they left off in last year. Sign-ups for sessions 2 and 3 will take place the weekend after testing (testing is on Fridays).

Learn-to-Swim Level 1
Introduction to Water Skills
The objectives of Level 1 are to learn basic personal water safety information and skills, to help participants feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy the water safely. In Level 1, you teach elementary water skills. At this level, participants start developing good swimming habits and safe practices in and around the water.
Learn-to-Swim Level 2
Fundamental Aquatic Skills
The objective of Level 2 is to give participants success with fundamental skills. Participants learn to float without support and to recover to a vertical position. This level marks the beginning of true locomotion skills. Participants further develop simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on the front and back that lay the foundation for future strokes.
Learn-to-Swim Level 3
Stroke Development
The objective of Level 3 is to build on previously learned skills by providing additional guided practice. You teach participants the survival float, swim the front crawl, and elementary back stroke. You introduce the scissors kick and dolphin kick. Participants should also learn the rules for headfirst entries and begin to enter the water headfirst from a seated position at poolside.
Learn-to-Swim Level 4
Stroke Improvement
The objectives of Level 4 are to develop participants’ confidence in the strokes learned thus far and to improve other aquatic skills. In level 4, participants improve their skills and increase their endurance by swimming familiar strokes (front crawl, elementary backstroke) for greater distances. Participants add the arms to the scissor kick for sidestroke. Participants also start to learn the back crawl, breaststroke and butterfly.
Learn-to-Swim Level 5
Stoke Refinement
The objectives of Level 5 are coordination and refinement of strokes. Participants refine their performance of all strokes (front crawl, back crawl, butterfly,
breaststroke, elementary backstroke, and sidestroke) and increase their distances. Stroke turns are also introduced.
Learn-to-Swim Level 6
Swimming and Skill Proficiency
The objectives of Level 6 are to refine strokes so participants swim them with more ease, efficiency, power, and smoothness.
